A straight run plus a three-unit island turns the kitchen into the place where everyone ends up. Here is how to plan one that works.

## A place to gather

The island kitchen pairs a straight wall run with a freestanding island three units long. The wall side does the heavy lifting: two drawer bases, the sink, the hob with its hood, and a dishwasher. The island gives you a second worktop to prepare on, serve from or simply lean against with a cup of coffee while someone else cooks.

## Mind the gap

The distance between the run and the island decides whether the room feels relaxed or cramped. This setup keeps 110 cm between them, enough for one person to work and another to pass behind. If two people often cook at once, or you have a wide oven door, consider going up to 120 cm. You can change the gap in the configurator and watch the plan update.

## Ink, brass and granite

Deep Ink fronts from the Plain range are the only gloss colour we offer, and they reflect the light of a room beautifully. Brushed brass bar handles and a brass tap add warmth against the dark blue. The flamed black granite worktop is the hardest of our four worktops: hot pans and sharp knives do not worry it.

## Storage on both sides

Two 80 cm wall cabinets hold the everyday crockery above the sink. The island itself is storage too, so the big serving dishes and the baking tins can live where you will use them. Keep the island surface clear of appliances, and it stays the calm centre of the room.

## From breakfast to late evening

An island changes character through the day. In the morning it is a breakfast bar; at dinner it is where the plates wait and the conversation happens; late in the evening it is the place to finish a glass under low pendant light. Ink fronts take that change well: in daylight they read as deep blue, at night almost black, with the brass handles catching the light.
